Moscow (Web Desk) – The Iranian Red Crescent Society has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a Russian company to acquire 20 helicopters, Iranian media reported.
The agreement was signed on Wednesday at the headquarters of Russian Helicopters in Moscow by Iranian Red Crescent Society President Pir Hossein Kolivand and Russian Helicopters Director General Nikolai Kolesov.
Addressing reporters in Moscow, Kolivand said the deal represents a major step toward enhancing Iran’s logistics network and aerial rescue capabilities. He noted that the agreement provides for the direct purchase of 20 helicopters from Russia, describing it as a landmark achievement for the organization.
He revealed that an initial contract covering four helicopters has already been concluded. The first batch is scheduled for delivery by March 2027, ahead of the Nowruz holidays.
Kolivand said the helicopters will be equipped with advanced technology, including night-vision systems, enabling operations during nighttime conditions.
According to him, the aircraft will be deployed for a variety of missions, including firefighting, medical evacuations, emergency response, and rescue operations.
Officials believe the acquisition will significantly strengthen Iran’s emergency response system and increase the operational capacity of its humanitarian and disaster-relief services across the country.
