KANDIAN, GUJRAT (Web Desk) – Continuous monsoon rains have kept several major rivers across Pakistan under flood watch, with water levels remaining elevated at key barrages and river channels. Authorities have maintained emergency preparedness and directed all relevant departments to remain on high alert as rainfall continues in various parts of the country.
According to flood monitoring officials, low-level flooding persisted at Chashma Barrage, where a steady rise in water inflows has been recorded over the past several hours. Officials said the barrage received an inflow of 310,446 cusecs of water, while the outflow stood at approximately 301,000 cusecs.
Authorities noted that water inflows at Chashma Barrage increased by nearly 34,000 cusecs within the last 16 hours, reflecting the impact of continued rainfall in upper catchment areas. Although the situation remains under control, officials are closely monitoring changes in river flow to ensure timely action if conditions worsen.
Low-level flood conditions were also reported at Jinnah Barrage. Water inflows there reached 309,000 cusecs, while outflows were measured at around 305,000 cusecs. Engineers and flood control staff continued monitoring the barrage around the clock to ensure smooth water discharge and maintain the safety of surrounding areas.
The Chenab River also experienced a rise in water levels at Head Marala. Official figures showed inflows of 205,488 cusecs and outflows of 187,388 cusecs. Although the river remained within the low flood category, authorities warned that additional rainfall upstream could increase pressure on the river system during the coming days.
District administrations in vulnerable regions have been instructed to coordinate with irrigation departments, rescue agencies and local authorities to ensure a rapid response if water levels rise further. Officials said monitoring teams have been deployed at sensitive locations, while emergency equipment and rescue resources remain ready for immediate use.
Local administrations have also advised residents living near rivers, streams and flood-prone areas to remain alert and follow official instructions. People have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel across flooded roads, bridges and low-lying crossings, especially during periods of heavy rainfall.
Rescue officials said emergency response teams were prepared to carry out evacuations if required. Temporary relief arrangements and emergency shelters have also been identified in vulnerable districts to accommodate families in case of worsening flood conditions.
Meteorological authorities have forecast further monsoon activity in several parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Continued rainfall could result in additional runoff into rivers, canals and seasonal streams, increasing the likelihood of localized flooding.
Flood experts stressed that regular monitoring of water flows remains essential during the monsoon season, as river conditions can change rapidly following heavy rainfall in upstream regions. They added that coordinated efforts among irrigation departments, disaster management authorities and local administrations are crucial to minimizing risks to lives and property.
Officials said there is currently no immediate threat of major flooding at the monitored barrages, but precautionary measures will remain in place until weather conditions improve. Surveillance of rivers, embankments and flood protection infrastructure will continue around the clock, with updates being issued as new information becomes available.
Authorities have appealed to the public to rely only on official advisories, avoid spreading unverified information and cooperate with emergency services throughout the ongoing monsoon season as Pakistan remains on alert for possible flood-related emergencies.
