LAHORE — The Investigation Wing, Lahore Police, have arrested a proclaimed offender wanted in a murder case after he allegedly remained in hiding for nearly a year, officials said on Monday.
According to a statement issued by the office of the PRO and DIG Investigation Lahore, the arrest was made on the instructions of DIG Investigation Syed Zeeshan Raza as part of an ongoing crackdown against proclaimed offenders.
A police team led by In-charge Investigation of North Cantonment Police Station, Zamir Hussain, carried out the operation and apprehended the suspect, who was wanted in connection with the murder of Tasawar Abbas.
Police alleged that the accused had abducted Tasawar Abbas about a year ago and taken him to Arifwala, where he fatally stabbed him. Following the killing, the suspect had allegedly remained absconding.
DIG Investigation Syed Zeeshan Raza said the Investigation Police, in coordination with prosecutors under the police-prosecution partnership framework, would ensure that the arrested suspect is brought to justice through legal proceedings.
He added that the crackdown against proclaimed offenders would continue across Lahore.
Separately, SSP Investigation Muhammad Naveed announced commendation certificates for the police team involved in the successful operation.
Authorities have not released the identity of the arrested suspect, and the allegations against him are subject to judicial proceedings.
