LAHORE — A sessions court in Lahore on Wednesday extended the interim bail of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmaker Saqib Chadhar and his wife, Samira, until July 2 in connection with a case involving allegations of harassment and death threats made by actress Momina Iqbal.
The case, which has attracted considerable public attention due to the involvement of a sitting member of the Punjab Assembly and a prominent television actress, was heard by an additional sessions judge. Saqib Chadhar and his wife appeared before the court during the proceedings.
During the hearing, the investigating officer informed the court that the suspects’ mobile phones had been sent for forensic examination and that more time was required to complete the investigation. The officer told the court that digital evidence was being analysed and that the findings of the forensic examination would play a key role in determining the direction of the inquiry.
After hearing the arguments, the court extended the interim pre-arrest bail of both suspects until July 2 and directed the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) to submit a progress report at the next hearing.
The case was registered by the NCCIA on a complaint lodged by actress Momina Iqbal, who alleged that she had been subjected to harassment and had received death threats. The complaint prompted cybercrime authorities to launch an investigation into the matter.
While details of the allegations have not been made public in full, officials are examining digital records and electronic devices as part of the ongoing inquiry. Investigators are expected to determine the authenticity of messages and other material that could form part of the evidence.
Neither Saqib Chadhar nor his wife made any public statement following the court proceedings. Their legal representatives have maintained that they would cooperate fully with the investigation and contest the allegations through legal channels.
The case has generated widespread interest on social media and within political circles because of the high-profile personalities involved. Legal experts say the forensic analysis of electronic devices could prove crucial in establishing facts and determining whether formal charges are warranted.
The next hearing is scheduled for July 2, when the court is expected to review the NCCIA’s findings and decide on further proceedings. Until then, the interim bail granted to the PML-N legislator and his wife will remain in effect.
