(Tech Desk) – Apple’s long-rumoured foldable iPhone could become the most expensive smartphone in the company’s history, with a new industry estimate suggesting an average selling price of around $2,500. Higher-storage variants could cost as much as $3,000, positioning the device above every existing iPhone model in Apple’s lineup.
While the pricing remains unofficial, the latest estimates indicate Apple is preparing to enter the premium foldable smartphone market with a device focused on advanced design, flagship hardware, and productivity features. The company has not confirmed the product, its name, or launch timeline.
According to reports, Apple’s first foldable iPhone will adopt a book-style design that unfolds into a larger tablet-like display. The device is expected to feature a 5.5-inch outer OLED display for everyday use and a 7.8-inch inner OLED display with a 4:3 aspect ratio, offering more screen space for multitasking, entertainment, and productivity.
Apple is reportedly working to minimise the visible crease on the folding display while improving durability through a liquid-metal hinge. The smartphone is expected to measure around 4.5mm when unfolded and approximately 9mm to 9.5mm when folded, making it one of the thinnest foldable devices in its class.
The foldable iPhone is also expected to feature a premium frame made from a combination of titanium and aluminium to balance strength and weight. Under the hood, the device could be powered by Apple’s next-generation A20 chip, reportedly manufactured using a 2nm process, paired with 12GB of RAM for flagship-level performance. It is also expected to include Apple’s C2 5G modem with support for mmWave connectivity.
Reports suggest Apple may replace Face ID with a Touch ID fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button. The decision is believed to be driven by the limited internal space available in the foldable design.
For photography, the foldable iPhone is expected to include a dual-camera setup featuring a 48MP primary camera and a 48MP ultrawide camera. A telephoto lens is unlikely due to space constraints inside the device. The phone is also expected to feature front-facing cameras on both displays, with some reports indicating that the inner display could use a 24MP under-display camera for a cleaner viewing experience.
Battery capacity is expected to range between 5,400mAh and 5,800mAh, potentially making it the largest battery ever included in an iPhone. The larger battery is expected to support the power demands of the dual-display design while improving overall battery life.
On the software side, Apple is expected to introduce enhanced multitasking features, including side-by-side app support and other iPad-inspired productivity tools when the device is unfolded. The smartphone is also rumoured to rely exclusively on eSIM, eliminating the physical SIM card slot.
