GILGIT — Amjad Hussain Advocate has officially assumed office as the Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, marking the completion of the leadership transition in the newly constituted regional assembly.

The development follows his election by the assembly members, consolidating the Pakistan Peoples Party’s position in the region’s government setup.

Amjad Hussain, a senior Pakistan Peoples Party leader, has a long-standing political and legal career. He previously served as a member of the Gilgit-Baltistan Council and has also held leadership roles within the party’s provincial structure. His appointment is being viewed as a continuation of the party’s influence in the region’s governance.

According to official sources, the oath-taking ceremony will be held shortly, formalising his responsibilities as the head of the provincial government.

In the same political arrangement, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Hafiz Hafiz-ur-Rehman has been confirmed as the Leader of the Opposition in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, completing the key parliamentary positions in the House.

The formation of both government and opposition leadership marks an important step in the functioning of the assembly, which recently began its legislative term following the oath-taking of its members.

Political observers say the early establishment of leadership roles is expected to help stabilise parliamentary proceedings and allow the assembly to move towards governance and policy-making activities.
