The Future of the Shiva Trilogy and Ranveer Singh’s Path Forward
The landscape of Indian cinema is often filled with speculation regarding major book-to-film adaptations, and few properties have generated as much buzz as Amish Tripathi’s legendary Shiva Trilogy.
Recently, rumors intensified suggesting that Ranveer Singh, currently basking in the massive success of his latest hit Dhurandhar, would finally bring the character of Lord Shiva to life.
However, the author himself has stepped forward to set the record straight, effectively hitting the pause button on these specific expectations.
Amish Tripathi officially clarified that the rights to the Immortals of Meluha series remain exclusively with him.
Despite reports claiming that Ranveer Singh had acquired the rights through his production house, Maa Kasam Film, and was collaborating with Birla Studios, Tripathi confirmed that no such signatures have taken place.
While the author expressed deep admiration for Ranveer’s talent, he maintained that the news regarding this partnership is currently inaccurate.
This development adds another chapter to the long and complex history of the Shiva Trilogy’s journey toward the screen.
Since 2014, some of the biggest names in the industry have attempted to adapt these books. Karan Johar originally held the rights before the project was shelved. Later, rumors tied Sanjay Leela Bhansali to the property, and in 2022, a high-budget digital series led by Shekhar Kapur seemed promising before it too stalled.
The trilogy—consisting of The Immortals of Meluha, The Secret of the Nagas, and The Oath of the Vayuputras—remains one of the most sought-after stories in Indian literature, yet it continues to elude a definitive cinematic adaptation.
As for Ranveer Singh, the clarification from Tripathi shifts the focus toward his confirmed upcoming work. While fans may have been excited about a potential Don 3, a reported creative disagreement with Farhan Akhtar has led the actor in a different direction. Instead, Ranveer is set to lead Jai Mehta’s theatrical debut, Pralay.
Moving away from mythological epics, this project is being developed as a high-octane zombie thriller with a significant budget.
Following the career-defining momentum of Dhurandhar, this pivot into the horror-thriller genre marks a bold new phase for the actor, even as the mystery of who will eventually play the Neelkanth remains unsolved.
