LAHORE: Mardan Ali Zaidi, former Executive Committee member of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) and Corporate Class candidate for the 2026-28  term has said that the upcoming elections will mark a significant shift in the chamber’s affairs, claiming that traders and industrialists are looking for change and a stronger voice for their concerns.

He said the business community had become increasingly focused on issues affecting trade and industry, including facilitation, policy engagement and creating a more supportive environment for businesses.

“The traders and industrialists are looking for change and they will use their vote to express their demand for a new direction,” Zaidi said while speaking about the ongoing LCCI election campaign.

The candidate said that members of the business community were approaching the Vision Alliance and expressing their support for its agenda. “People are calling us, meeting us and sharing their expectations. This response shows that the business community wants an effective and proactive chamber,” he added.

He said the objective of the alliance was not limited to election slogans but was based on a broader plan aimed at addressing the challenges faced by traders and industrialists.

“Our plans are not just promises; these are practical proposals prepared to serve the business community. We believe these initiatives will translate into meaningful improvements after the elections,” Zaidi said.

Commenting on the election campaign, he said that the business community was aware of its role and understood the importance of choosing representatives who could effectively raise their issues.

“Traders and industrialists are united, sensible and know how to safeguard their interests. They want representation that understands their problems and works for solutions,” he said.

The candidate also criticised what he described as the existing style of politics within the chamber, saying that negative discourse during the campaign was disappointing. He said that personal criticism and unnecessary debates reflected a lack of focus on the real issues confronting the business community.

“It is disappointing when experienced people engage in such discussions instead of focusing on policies and solutions. The business community expects maturity and a positive approach,” he added.

He expressed confidence that the LCCI elections scheduled for September 23 and 24 would bring a new phase for the chamber.

“After September 23 and 24, the business community will witness a major change. Our commitment is to work for traders and industrialists and strengthen the role of the chamber as a representative institution,” he said.
