MUMBAI (Web Desk) – The music industry continues to react to Arijit Singh’s unexpected decision to step away from playback singing, and now singer-composer Adnan Sami has spoken in support of the artist’s choice. Calling for understanding and respect, Sami said Singh’s decision should not become a subject of unnecessary speculation, especially when it appears to be a carefully considered personal move.
Earlier this year, Arijit Singh surprised fans and members of the entertainment industry after announcing his retirement from playback singing through a social media statement. The announcement sparked widespread conversations online, with many questioning the pressures artists face while balancing fame, expectations and personal well-being.
Reacting to the development during the launch of his latest single, “Lipstick Laga Ke, Nazar Utar Le,” released under Zee Music Company, Adnan Sami emphasised that Singh deserves the freedom to make decisions about his own life and career without public pressure.
According to Sami, such a major decision is unlikely to have been made impulsively. He stated that Singh must have strong personal reasons behind stepping away from playback singing and that he is under no obligation to explain those reasons publicly. Sami added that audiences and the media should allow the singer the space and privacy he deserves rather than forcing explanations or assumptions upon him.
The veteran musician also addressed the growing discussion around mental fatigue and emotional burnout in the entertainment industry. While many fans linked Singh’s retirement to stress and industry pressure, Sami said it would be unfair to generalise or jump to conclusions. He pointed out that every artist experiences challenges differently, and the reasons for taking a break from work can vary from person to person.
Speaking about the music business and its demanding environment, Sami explained that different music companies follow different creative and commercial approaches. Some labels offer artists greater freedom, while others maintain stricter control over the kind of music they release. However, he stressed that artists still have the choice to decide whether they want to work within those systems.
Sami further noted that pressure often grows when artists fear professional consequences if they do not meet certain expectations. In his view, much of that stress is internal and self-imposed rather than directly forced upon them.
As conversations around mental health and creative exhaustion continue within the entertainment world, Sami’s comments have added a balanced perspective, encouraging empathy and respect for personal choices made by artists like Arijit Singh.
