LAHORE: Newly elected Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Executive Committee member Mardan Ali Zaidi has said the Vision Alliance team, under the leadership of LCCI President Ali Hussam Asghar, has started translating its election pledges into practical measures from the very first day of its tenure.
He said the launch of a complaint cell on the first day was an important step towards providing LCCI members with a direct mechanism to raise their genuine business-related concerns and seek their resolution through the chamber.
“Anyone with a genuine reason can approach the LCCI and bring their issue to the notice of the chamber,” Zaidi said, adding that the establishment of the complaint cell demonstrated the new leadership’s commitment to keeping the chamber accessible to its members.
According to Zaidi, the initiative reflected the Vision Alliance’s emphasis on practical work rather than limiting its activities to announcements and promises made during the election campaign.
He said the new leadership had also established a different working approach by involving Executive Committee members in discussions about problems faced by businesses in their respective sectors.
Zaidi said LCCI President Ali Hussam Asghar set an example on the first day of his tenure by calling an Executive Committee meeting and discussing sector-specific issues with the members.
He described the meeting as an important step because EC members were given an opportunity to bring forward the concerns of the business sectors they represented and discuss possible ways of addressing them through the chamber’s platform.
“The president has set a unique example by calling the EC members’ meeting on the very first day and discussing their sector issues,” Zaidi said.
He said the approach would allow EC members to remain connected with their respective business communities and identify problems requiring attention from the LCCI leadership, government departments and other relevant authorities.
Zaidi said the chamber could play a more effective role when issues were identified at the sector level and subsequently pursued through an organised mechanism.
He added that the focus on immediate engagement with EC members showed that the new leadership wanted to begin its tenure with a clear direction and a practical agenda.
According to Zaidi, the Vision Alliance’s objective was to make the LCCI an effective platform for the business community and contribute to creating conditions conducive to investment, trade and industrial growth.
He said Lahore had significant economic potential, but businesses needed an environment in which their genuine concerns could be heard and addressed through timely intervention.
Zaidi said stronger coordination between the LCCI, government institutions and regulatory authorities would be necessary to address the challenges faced by traders, manufacturers, exporters and other businesses.
He said the new leadership’s approach of listening to sector representatives and pursuing their issues could help strengthen cooperation between the business community and public-sector institutions.
“The vision required for putting Lahore on the path of growth and development is now being reflected in the way the chamber has started its work,” Zaidi said.
He maintained that the early initiatives taken by the new leadership should be followed by consistent engagement, follow-up and implementation so that business community concerns could be converted into practical outcomes.
Zaidi said the Vision Alliance team would continue working collectively through the Executive Committee and remain engaged with LCCI members to identify their problems and take them up at the appropriate forums.
He said the initial steps taken during the first days of the new tenure had provided a framework for a more member-focused approach at the chamber.
