DAMBULLA (Sports Desk) – A magnificent unbeaten century from opener Imesha Dulani inspired Sri Lanka Women to a convincing six-wicket triumph over Pakistan Women in the opening fixture of the three-match T20 International series on Friday.

Electing to field after winning the toss, the hosts initially struggled to contain Pakistan’s aggressive top order. Captain Muneeba Ali laid the foundation with a blistering 42 from just 24 balls, peppering the boundary rope nine times during a brisk opening partnership worth 66 runs.

Pakistan appeared on course for an imposing total when Shawaal Zulfiqar and Iman Nasir combined for a productive 61-run stand. However, Sri Lanka tightened its grip in the closing overs, restricting the visitors to 176 for seven despite Shawaal’s accomplished knock of 63. Iman chipped in with 21, while Ayesha Zafar contributed 17.

The home side’s bowling effort was shared, with Kavisha Dilhari leading the attack by taking two wickets. Kavya Kavindi, Sugandika Kumari and Chamudi Praboda also struck to halt Pakistan’s late surge.

Sri Lanka’s pursuit gathered momentum through a composed and authoritative innings from Dulani, who remained unbeaten on 101 to steer her side to the target with six deliveries remaining.

Captain Chamari Athapaththu provided valuable support with 39, ensuring Sri Lanka crossed the finish line at 177 for four in 19 overs and secured a 1-0 advantage in the series.

Pakistan’s bowling attack found limited success, with Nashra Sandhu claiming two wickets, while Hamna Bilal and Umm-e-Hani picked up one wicket each.

The two teams will resume the series with the second T20I on August 2, before concluding the contest with the third and final match on August 4, both in Dambulla.
