Iranians face growing hardship as renewed US strikes deepen uncertainty

Renewed US strikes have intensified fear across Iran, worsening inflation, disrupting jobs and leaving families uncertain as conflict and economic pressures continue to escalate.

TEHRAN (Web desk) – Fresh US military strikes have plunged Iran back into uncertainty, forcing millions of people to confront renewed fears over their safety, livelihoods and economic future after weeks of relative calm under a fragile ceasefire.

Residents across several Iranian cities say the latest escalation has intensified an already difficult situation marked by soaring inflation, unstable markets and limited employment opportunities. Families are struggling to manage rising living costs while remaining uncertain about how long the conflict will continue.

The renewed military action has raised concerns that the region could witness another prolonged period of instability, affecting not only security but also Iran’s fragile economy. Businesses that had begun recovering after the temporary reduction in hostilities are once again facing disruptions.

Citizens report that food prices have risen sharply in recent weeks, making essential household items increasingly unaffordable. Many families say their purchasing power has declined significantly as inflation continues to outpace incomes.

Small business owners and self-employed professionals are among those most affected. Many depend on reliable internet connectivity and stable market conditions to earn a living, but repeated disruptions have reduced work opportunities and delayed business activities.

Technology professionals, freelancers and online entrepreneurs have experienced particular difficulties. Internet restrictions imposed during periods of heightened tension have interrupted remote work, delayed international projects and reduced income for thousands who rely on digital platforms.

Economic uncertainty has also affected newly married couples and young professionals planning their futures. Rising prices, unstable employment and fears of further conflict have forced many families to postpone financial decisions, investments and personal milestones.

Mental health experts have warned that the continuing uncertainty is taking a psychological toll on the population. Constant fears of renewed attacks, combined with financial stress, are contributing to anxiety, sleep disorders and emotional exhaustion among many residents.

Despite growing hardship, many Iranians say leaving the country is no longer a practical option. The sharp decline in the value of the national currency has made overseas education, migration and relocation financially impossible for a large number of citizens.

Others say strong family ties and emotional attachment to their homeland continue to outweigh the desire to seek safety abroad. Many believe remaining close to relatives during difficult times provides greater comfort than facing an uncertain future in another country.

Analysts believe the conflict is also placing additional pressure on Iran’s already strained economy. International sanctions, reduced investment and uncertainty surrounding regional security have combined to weaken business confidence and limit economic recovery.

Market experts warn that prolonged instability could further increase inflation, reduce industrial production and discourage foreign investment, creating additional challenges for both businesses and ordinary citizens.

Humanitarian organisations have also expressed concern over the broader impact of continued hostilities. They warn that disruptions to transportation, communications and essential services could further complicate daily life if tensions continue to rise.

Meanwhile, regional observers fear that continued military exchanges between Iran and the United States could increase instability across the Middle East, affecting energy markets, international trade routes and neighbouring countries.

Diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions remain under close international observation, although no immediate breakthrough has been announced. Several governments continue to urge restraint and renewed dialogue to prevent a wider regional confrontation.

For many ordinary Iranians, however, daily survival has become the immediate priority. Rising prices, uncertain employment and concerns over personal safety dominate conversations as families attempt to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances.

Residents say they continue to hope for lasting peace but remain cautious as violence resumes. Many believe only sustained diplomatic engagement can restore stability and allow people to rebuild their lives after months of conflict, economic hardship and uncertainty.
