KARACHI (Web Desk) – The Karachi Water Corporation has announced plans to strengthen security at key water supply installations following an inspection of the Dhabeji Pumping Complex by Chief Security Officer Syed Jawad Shah.
The visit was conducted on the instructions of Chief Executive Officer Ahmed Ali Siddiqui to assess existing security arrangements and identify areas requiring improvement.
During the inspection, Shah reviewed the deployment of security personnel, monitoring of entry and exit points, and protective measures at sensitive installations. He directed relevant officials to enhance security at facilities critical to Karachi’s water supply network.
According to a Water Corporation spokesperson, Shah will approach the deputy commissioner of Thatta and the senior superintendent of police in Thatta to request permanent police pickets and regular patrolling around important water infrastructure.
The proposed security arrangements will cover the Dhabeji Pumping Station, Gharo Pumping Station, Gharo Filter Plant and Chilya Intake Zero Point.
Officials emphasised that these installations play a crucial role in supplying water to Karachi, making their protection essential for the city’s residents and public services.
The corporation also highlighted the importance of maintaining an uninterrupted electricity supply and ensuring the smooth operation of pumping systems to prevent disruptions in water distribution.
The initiative reflects efforts to strengthen the protection of critical public infrastructure and improve coordination between water authorities and law enforcement agencies.
Authorities are expected to pursue further coordination with district administration and police officials to determine the implementation of the proposed security measures.
Ensuring reliable protection of these facilities remains a priority for maintaining Karachi’s water supply and safeguarding essential services for millions of residents.
