KARACHI (Web Desk) – Pakistan’s stock market closed in the red on Monday after a volatile trading session that saw investors navigate sharp swings in sentiment throughout the day.
The benchmark KSE-100 Index began trading on a positive note, gaining more than 1,200 points during early hours and briefly crossing the 180,000-point mark. The rally reflected optimism among investors and renewed buying interest in key sectors.
However, the positive momentum failed to sustain as profit-taking and selling pressure emerged later in the session. The market gradually surrendered its gains, with the benchmark index fluctuating between positive and negative territory before settling lower at the close.
By the end of trading, the KSE-100 Index had declined by 450 points to finish at 178,471 points, highlighting the cautious mood among investors despite the strong opening performance.
Market analysts said the sharp intraday movement reflected uncertainty among traders, with investors closely monitoring economic developments, corporate announcements and broader market conditions. Such fluctuations are common when market participants reassess positions after a rapid rise in share prices.
Despite the decline in the benchmark index, trading activity remained healthy. More than 231 million shares changed hands during the session, while the total value of traded stocks exceeded Rs24 billion, indicating continued participation from both institutional and retail investors.
Financial experts noted that robust trading volumes suggest investor interest remains intact even during periods of market correction. They added that short-term volatility often occurs as traders book profits and react to changing economic signals.
The Pakistan Stock Exchange has experienced significant growth in recent months, supported by improving macroeconomic indicators, easing inflationary pressures and expectations regarding economic reforms. However, analysts warn that fluctuations are likely to continue as investors respond to domestic and international developments.
Investors are also keeping a close eye on fiscal policies, interest rate expectations and corporate earnings, all of which are expected to influence market direction in the coming weeks.
While Monday’s session ended on a negative note, market observers believe the strong trading activity demonstrates confidence in the long-term outlook of Pakistan’s capital market.
Analysts said future market performance will largely depend on economic stability, policy continuity and investor sentiment, which remain key drivers of activity at the country’s largest stock exchange.
