[:en]TRIBUNE INT’L DESK : The government has appointed Lieutenan Genral Waqer Uz Zaman as the new Army Chief of Bangladesh Army, effective from, June 23, Inter- Services Pubilc Relations (ISPR), announced on Tuesday.
With the appointment, he will be promoted to the rank of general.
His tenure will last for the three years.

The outgoing General SM Shafiurddin Ahmed assumed of the Bangldesh Army on June 24, 2021. Zaman took on the duties of chief of army staff of the Bangladesh Army on January 1.
As alumn of the Bangladesh Military Acadmy, he was commissioned into the Infantry Corps on December 20, 1985.
With an illustrious career spanning more than three and a half decades. He brings with him extensive experience in key command, staff, and instructional appointments.
His key staff appointments include roles as a staff officer at an infantry brigade, the School of Infantry and Tactics, and army headquarters.
