LAHORE: A meeting of the Parliamentary Caucus for Children with Different Abilities was held at the Punjab Assembly under the convenership of Salma Saeed, bringing together lawmakers, government officials, experts and partner organisations.
The session focused on key learning challenges, including dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), alongside broader discussions on inclusive education, rehabilitation and skill development.
Officials from the School Education Department and the Punjab Skills Development Fund briefed participants on ongoing initiatives such as student screening, awareness campaigns, entrepreneurship programmes and AI-based assessment tools.
Participants highlighted the need for early diagnosis, teacher training and improved classroom environments to better support children with diverse learning needs.
Salma Saeed reaffirmed the caucus’s commitment to promoting inclusive education, developing child-friendly classrooms and expanding opportunities for children and young persons with different abilities across Punjab.
The meeting reflects growing recognition of learning disabilities and the need for inclusive policies in education. Improved screening and support systems can help students achieve better academic and social outcomes.
Further policy measures and funding may be introduced to strengthen inclusive education frameworks in Punjab.
The initiative aligns with Pakistan’s broader goals of equitable education and social inclusion for all segments of society.
