- LAHORE: FAID Pakistan organized a high-level seminar at Parklane Hotel, Gulberg III, Lahore, under the theme “Bridging Intergenerational Rights for Inclusive Development.”FAID holds seminar on Bridging Human Rights
The event brought together policymakers, civil society leaders, youth advocates, and senior citizen representatives to address the demographic shifts reshaping Pakistan’s development outlook.

As the world’s fifth most populous country, Pakistan is facing a dual challenge: a growing elderly population due to increased life expectancy and a declining fertility rate. These shifts have made it crucial to promote equitable development that spans across all age groups. The seminar served as a timely platform to push for intergenerational justice within national planning efforts, aligning with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“Demographic transitions are not just numbers—they reflect the real lives of our young and old,” said Mr. Shahzado Khaskheli, Head of Programs at FAID Pakistan, in his opening remarks. “Inclusive planning must recognize the needs and contributions of every generation.”
Chief Guest Ms. Saira Afzal Tarar, Coordinator to the Chief Minister on Population, stressed the need to bridge policy gaps. “If we truly want to build resilient and fair societies, our policies must include the voices of both youth and older persons,” she stated.
A powerful keynote address by Prof. Dr. Asghar Zaidi, Provost at the University of Management and Technology, delved into the effects of urbanization, migration, and evolving family dynamics on intergenerational relationships in Pakistan and globally.
Panel discussions featured prominent speakers such as Dr. Tanveer Sheikh (HANDS Pakistan), Ms. Shabnam Rasheed (South Asia Partnership Pakistan), and Ms. Bushra Khaliq (WISE), who shared insights on a range of issues—from elder care and social protection to youth participation and gender equality.
The seminar concluded with key recommendations presented by Syed Sajjad Hussain, Program Coordinator at FAID Pakistan. In her closing remarks, Punjab Assembly Member Ms. Safia Saeed reaffirmed the government’s dedication to promoting policies that uphold intergenerational rights and inclusive development.
The event sparked meaningful dialogue and laid a strong foundation for future policy innovations aimed at creating a just and inclusive society for all generations.
