LAHORE: A revered 70-year-old traditional Ziyarat (sacred procession) was solemnly carried out from Palm Street, Old Anarkali, Lahore, on the occasion of Muharram. This longstanding spiritual event has remained an integral part of the city’s cultural and religious heritage for decades.
The Ziyarat was organized under the supervision of prominent mourners and custodians of this tradition Javed Nair, Pashay Shah, and Haider Kazmi , who ensured a well-organized and spiritually enriching procession while preserving the historic essence of this sacred practice.
A large number of participants from diverse schools of thought, including local residents, mourners, youth, and elderly citizens, took part in the event. The atmosphere resonated with recitations of Durood o Salaam and Noha Khwani (elegies), enhancing the spiritual ambiance. Special arrangements for Sabeel (refreshments) and Niaz (free distribution of food) were also made by the organizers for the convenience of the attendees.
Speaking on the occasion, Javed Nair, Pashay Shah, and Haider Kazmi emphasized that this Ziyarat is not merely an act of religious devotion but also symbolizes interfaith harmony, unity, and the enduring spiritual traditions of Lahore. They vowed to continue this legacy across generations to instill in the youth the timeless values of sacrifice, patience, and reverence for Ahl-e-Bait (the family of the Prophet ï·º).
The organizers also appreciated the police, district administration, and local volunteers for ensuring excellent security and crowd management throughout the route of the procession.
