Long hours, low wages, and little dignity — a security guard pauses on duty to eat a simple, makeshift meal of roti with curry and a bowl of watery yogurt, placed on a worn bench in the open. LAHORE— The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) marked Youm-e-Takbeer with heartfelt tributes and renewed pledges of national unity, resilience, and economic strength. LCCI President Mian Abuzar Shad, Senior Vice President Engineer Khalid Usman, and Vice President Shahid Nazir Chaudhry paid glowing homage to the scientists, armed forces, and leadership who made Pakistan a nuclear power, calling it a day of unmatched national significance.

Speaking on the occasion, the LCCI office-bearers said that Youm-e-Takbeer is not only a commemoration of the successful nuclear tests conducted on May 28, 1998, but a potent symbol of Pakistan’s sovereignty, strength, and unshakeable resolve to protect its territorial integrity.

“Youm-e-Takbeer is a reminder of the sacrifices and courage of those who envisioned a stronger, safer Pakistan. The historic day reflects our national determination and our ability to stand tall in the face of global pressure,” said LCCI President Mian Abuzar Shad.

He emphasized that the nuclear tests conducted in the remote hills of Chagai, Balochistan, sent a clear message to the world: that Pakistan is capable, self-reliant, and fully committed to its defense. “The day reminds us that with unity, determination, and the right leadership, no goal is out of reach,” he added.

Senior Vice President Engineer Khalid Usman noted that Youm-e-Takbeer is a moment of immense pride for the nation and serves as a beacon of hope for generations to come.

“This day teaches us that sovereignty is non-negotiable. We salute the brilliance and patriotism of our scientists, particularly Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan and his team, who defied all odds to achieve this remarkable feat,” he said.

Vice President Shahid Nazir Chaudhry added that while the tests gave Pakistan a powerful defense shield, the journey to national prosperity does not end there.

“It is now the responsibility of every Pakistani—whether in government, military, business, or civil society—to contribute toward a stronger, self-sufficient Pakistan,” he stated.

In a powerful message to the business community, the LCCI leadership highlighted the deep interconnection between national defense and economic independence.

“A strong economy is the backbone of a strong defense,” said President Abuzar Shad. “We must remember that no country can defend its sovereignty without economic resilience. It is the duty of every entrepreneur, industrialist, and trader to build an economically stable Pakistan.”

The LCCI officials urged policymakers and stakeholders to prioritize industrial development, investment in technology, and policies that support local businesses and exports. They stressed that sustainable economic policies would not only enhance living standards but also ensure that Pakistan remains secure and self-reliant in the years to come.

The chamber leaders further remarked that Youm-e-Takbeer should not be limited to ceremonial observance, but should inspire collective national action.

“Today, we renew our pledge to protect the dignity and independence of our motherland. We vow to stand united against any threat, whether internal or external,” stated Engineer Khalid Usman.

He urged the nation to reflect on the current challenges Pakistan faces and to channel the spirit of May 28 into constructive national efforts. “From our economic struggles to regional instability, there are many hurdles. But the lesson of Youm-e-Takbeer is that Pakistanis can rise to any occasion when united by purpose.”

The officials expressed confidence in the resilience of the Pakistani people and emphasized the need to strengthen national institutions, uphold rule of law, and promote meritocracy in all sectors.

Addressing the broader role of the business community, the LCCI emphasized that prosperity and security go hand in hand. “Our nuclear strength protects us from external threats, but our economic strength will define our future. A secure and growing economy ensures employment, social stability, and investment in technology and infrastructure,” said Shahid Nazir Chaudhry.

The chamber called upon all trade bodies and chambers of commerce across Pakistan to hold awareness events, contribute to national causes, and support initiatives aimed at youth employment, skills development, and entrepreneurship.

“Let us use this day to forge new collaborations between the public and private sectors for a stronger, more resilient Pakistan,” the LCCI leadership stated.

Reaffirming Support for Armed Forces and Scientists

On the occasion, the chamber paid tribute to the Pakistan Armed Forces for their unwavering defense of the country and acknowledged the contributions of scientists and engineers who made the nuclear program a success.

“We are proud of our armed forces and intelligence agencies who continue to safeguard Pakistan’s borders under challenging circumstances,” said Mian Abuzar Shad. “We stand with them and salute their dedication.”

He also stressed that the youth of Pakistan should be educated about the significance of May 28, so that future generations understand and appreciate the strategic importance of self-reliance and scientific achievement.

In conclusion, the LCCI leadership expressed hope that Youm-e-Takbeer will continue to serve as a symbol of unity, resilience, and national pride.

“Let us carry forward the spirit of this day not just in words but in action,” said Mian Abuzar Shad. “May 28, 1998, was a turning point in our history. Let every May 28 remind us that Pakistan can achieve anything through unity, discipline, and hard work.”

The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry pledged its continued commitment to working with national institutions, the government, and civil society to promote peace, security, and economic prosperity for all citizens.
