LAHORE: Late His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan (May his soul rest in peace), the Founding Father of the United Arab Emirates, firmly believed that education is the foundation of progress and prosperity.

His vision continues to guide generations, reflected in his renowned words: “Education is like a lantern which lights your way in a dark alley.”
This far-sighted philosophy has been faithfully carried forward by his sons—His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, and the late His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan (May his soul rest in peace)—whose sustained commitment has played a transformative role in strengthening educational infrastructure across Pakistan.
Through their benevolent support, 91 schools and colleges have been established in various regions of the country, including Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Gwadar, Turbat, Khuzdar, Chitral, Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Islamabad Capital Territory. These institutions serve thousands of students, particularly in remote and underdeveloped areas where access to quality education was once limited.
In addition to constructing educational institutions, the UAE leadership has sponsored numerous scholarships and provided essential facilities such as textbooks, stationery, furniture, laboratory equipment, medicines and teacher training programs. Salary support for teachers has further strengthened these institutions, ensuring continuity and quality of education at the grassroots level.
Special attention has also been given to the education and welfare of children with special needs. Several institutions dedicated to special children have been developed with direct support from the UAE leadership, including construction, renovation and furnishing of specialized facilities to provide a safe and supportive learning environment.
Recognizing the importance of skill development and economic self-reliance, vocational training centres have been established across rural Pakistan, including the Northern Areas, Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Rahim Yar Khan. These centres equip youth with practical skills, enhancing employability and contributing to socio-economic uplift.
The contribution in medical education is equally significant. Through sponsorship provided by the UAE leadership, 140 Pakistani students have successfully completed their M.B.B.S degrees and are now serving as qualified doctors, strengthening healthcare delivery across the country.
The Human Welfare and Nature Conservation Society (HWNCS) and Houbara Foundation International Pakistan (HFIP) have expressed deep appreciation for these initiatives and remain committed to facilitating the establishment, sustainability and maintenance of these projects, which continue to transform lives throughout Pakistan.
As stated by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan:
“Those who take the lead take it by doing three things: science to manoeuvre, knowledge to invest in education, and wise leadership with a clear vision and roadmap.”
The educational initiatives undertaken with the support of UAE leadership stand as a powerful symbol of enduring friendship, humanitarian cooperation and shared commitment to progress between Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.
