An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) delivered its verdict in another case linked to the May 9 incidents.

The trial, conducted at Kot Lakhpat Jail, involved the burning of a government vehicle near Jinnah House. ATC Judge Manzar Ali Gill, after reserving the judgment, announced the decision.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi was acquitted in the case, the third case involving arson and rioting. However, Dr Yasmin Rashid and Ijaz Chaudhry received 10-year prison sentences, while Khadija Shah was sentenced to five years.

Mian Mahmood-ur-Rasheed and Umar Sarfraz Cheema were also handed 10-year sentences each. Rubina Jamil and Afshan Tariq, named in the case, were acquitted.

Notably, in a prior ruling, the ATC had cleared Shah Mahmood Qureshi in the May 9 Sherpao Bridge arson and rioting case, but Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Mian Mahmood-ur-Rasheed, and others were sentenced to 10 years each.

Earlier, Dr. Yasmin Rashid, a PTI leader and former Punjab Health Minister, challenged her convictions by filing appeals in the Lahore High Court (LHC) against sentences in three separate May 9 cases. She argued that the ATC’s decisions lacked proper evaluation of facts and were unsupported by evidence.

Dr Rashid, who received 10-year sentences in each of the three cases—related to the attack on Shadman Police Station, the Sherpao Bridge arson, and the vehicle burning near Jinnah House—has requested the LHC to suspend her sentences and grant her release pending the final outcome of her appeals.
