ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) — Sugar prices have shot up again across Pakistan, putting further strain on consumers already struggling with rising food costs.

According to official statistics, the maximum retail price of sugar has climbed to Rs220 per kilogram in Karachi, up from Rs210 per kg last week.
The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported that Quetta saw sugar priced at Rs216 per kg, Hyderabad at Rs215, and Bannu at Rs212. Larkana recorded Rs205 per kg, Sukkur Rs200, while Islamabad and Rawalpindi stood at Rs190 per kg. Consumers in Gujranwala, Sialkot, Faisalabad, and Sargodha paid around Rs180 per kg, while Lahore recorded Rs179 per kg.
The average sugar price nationwide was reported at Rs189.61 per kg, slightly higher than last week’s average of Rs188.81. Analysts say that persistent supply constraints and market manipulation have kept sugar prices on an upward trajectory, despite government efforts to stabilize the market.
Market experts warn that without stronger regulatory enforcement, consumers may continue to bear the brunt of rising costs, particularly in major urban centers.
