TURBAT (Web Desk) – The bodies of six abducted labourers from Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were recovered from a remote area of Balochistan’s Kech district, triggering widespread condemnation and renewed concerns over the security of workers involved in development projects across the province. Authorities have launched an investigation while security forces continue operations to trace those responsible for the killings.

Police officials said the labourers had been kidnapped from the Kalatak area on July 28 while travelling to their workplace. Their bodies were discovered in the Nasirabad area after local authorities received information from residents. Rescue teams and law enforcement personnel reached the site, secured the area and shifted the bodies for medico-legal formalities before transporting them to Quetta.

According to police, four of the victims belonged to Punjab while two were residents of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Officials said arrangements were being made to send the bodies to their hometowns, where they will be laid to rest after identification and completion of legal procedures.

Security officials said the victims were employed on development-related projects in Balochistan. They described the attack as an attempt to spread fear among workers and disrupt ongoing infrastructure and public welfare initiatives in the province.

According to security sources, militants affiliated with Fitna al-Hindustan were believed to be behind the attack. Officials alleged that the same group had earlier killed another labourer identified as Javed before abducting the remaining workers. Security agencies said investigations were continuing to verify all aspects of the incident and identify those involved.

Following the killings, security forces intensified search operations across parts of Kech district. Checkpoints were strengthened and intelligence-based operations were launched in nearby areas to locate the attackers and dismantle any militant hideouts believed to be operating in the region.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi strongly condemned the killings, describing the attack as an act of extreme brutality against innocent workers. He expressed condolences to the families of the victims and assured them that the government would pursue those responsible through all available legal and security measures.

The minister said attacks on labourers were not only crimes against innocent citizens but also attempts to undermine development efforts in Balochistan. He stressed that those involved in such acts would not escape justice and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining peace and protecting workers across the country.

Provincial authorities also expressed grief over the incident and directed law enforcement agencies to accelerate investigations. Officials said security arrangements for workers involved in public development projects would be reviewed to reduce risks in vulnerable areas.

The latest incident has once again highlighted the security challenges facing remote districts of Balochistan, where labourers, engineers and contractors working on infrastructure projects have previously been targeted by militant groups. Authorities believe such attacks are intended to discourage economic activity and create instability.

Security experts say improving intelligence coordination, strengthening local policing and enhancing protection for workers remain essential to preventing similar incidents. They argue that sustained operations against militant networks, combined with community cooperation, are necessary to improve long-term security in affected regions.

Recent security assessments have indicated that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan remain the country’s most affected provinces in terms of militant violence. Officials say counterterrorism operations are continuing in both provinces, with law enforcement agencies working to dismantle networks involved in attacks on civilians and security personnel.

The killings have drawn widespread condemnation from political leaders and civil society, with many calling for swift justice and stronger protection for labourers who travel from different parts of Pakistan to contribute to development projects. Authorities have assured the families of the victims that every effort will be made to bring those responsible before the courts while continuing measures aimed at improving security and restoring public confidence in the affected areas.
