DEHLI (Web Desk) – The appointment of Rajmohan as Tamil Nadu’s Minister for Film Technology and the Cinematograph Act has sparked debate within the film industry, with several actors and public figures expressing mixed reactions. Rajmohan, the Egmore MLA, was among the nine ministers sworn in alongside Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on May 10 after the governor approved the allocation of portfolios. Apart from school education and Tamil development, Rajmohan was also entrusted with responsibilities linked to Tamil culture, archaeology, information and publicity, and cinema-related departments.
Actor Vishal Krishna openly questioned the decision, arguing that Rajmohan lacked direct experience and understanding of the realities faced by the Tamil film industry. His remarks triggered wider discussions among cinema professionals and political observers about whether someone without strong industry exposure should oversee such an important portfolio.
However, not everyone agreed with the criticism. Actor and filmmaker Raghava Lawrence stepped forward in support of the chief minister’s choice. Through a message shared on X, Lawrence urged people not to rush to conclusions and instead trust the judgment of CM Vijay. He emphasized that such an important decision would not have been taken without serious thought and planning.
Lawrence acknowledged that concerns from the film fraternity were understandable, especially at a time when the industry is facing several challenges. Still, he appealed for patience, saying that Rajmohan deserved an opportunity to understand the responsibilities of his office and prove his capabilities. According to Lawrence, every minister needs time to settle into a new role, and constructive support would be more beneficial than immediate criticism.
This is not the first occasion on which Raghava Lawrence has publicly backed Vijay’s political journey. Even before Vijay officially took oath as chief minister, Lawrence had congratulated him and highlighted the importance of respecting the people’s democratic mandate. He stressed that leaders should support the verdict delivered by voters rather than create unnecessary divisions or controversies.
With Vijay now joining the list of iconic actor-turned-political leaders such as N. T. Rama Rao, M. G. Ramachandran, and J. Jayalalithaa, his rise marks a major shift in Tamil Nadu politics. His party’s victory over long-established rivals like the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam has reshaped the state’s political landscape and opened a new chapter in its governance.
