LAHORE – The Punjab government has directed the closure of all theatres across the province from the 1st to the 13th of Muharram in observance of the sanctity of the Islamic month.
According to an official notification issued by the Punjab Arts Council, all stage dramas, theatrical performances and cultural programmes will remain suspended during the specified period.
The notification instructed theatre owners and managements to strictly comply with the directive and ensure that no entertainment activities take place throughout the first 13 days of Muharram.
Meanwhile, authorities across the country are finalising security arrangements for Ashura to ensure the safety of mourners participating in religious events.
Provincial governments and district administrations are reviewing routes of Muharram processions and religious gatherings, while law enforcement agencies have been directed to deploy additional personnel at sensitive locations.
Officials said comprehensive security and contingency plans would be implemented during Muharram to maintain law and order and provide a peaceful environment during the observance of the holy month.
