LAHORE: The Punjab government has failed to provide the farmers with the reasonable official price of wheat to the formers this year as well.
In the assembly floor the parliamentary secretary kept quoting the official price of wheat as Rs 2,800 to Rs 3,000, which was severely criticized by both the government and opposition members of the assembly.
In the Punjab Assembly session, Parliamentary Secretary Malik Waheed came to the house unprepared on the issue of food. Government member Zulfiqar Shah harshly criticised Secretary Food Malik Waheed on the new wheat policy and said that if there is bread, the country is stable, if there is no bread, people will eat us.
Malik Waheed wavered on the official rate of wheat, sometimes saying the rate was twenty-eight rupees and sometimes three thousand rupees per 40kg.
The Punjab Assembly session began as usual with a delay of two hours and forty-seven minutes, so government and opposition members complained about the late start of the session, on which Malik Muhammad Ahmed Khan ordered the session to start on time on Friday. Opposition member Asad Abbas attacked the government on the cases of substandard and harmful food, fake and adulterated food. Opposition member Rai Murtaza Iqbal declared food security as important as defense security.
