Following the latest adjustment, the price of high-speed diesel has increased to Rs402.96 per litre, while petrol will continue to be sold at Rs377.91 per litre.
According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the revised petroleum prices will take effect from Saturday, October 31, and remain applicable until Monday, November 2.
The latest increase in diesel prices is expected to place additional pressure on transport operators, agricultural businesses and commercial vehicle owners who rely heavily on diesel for their daily operations.
Meanwhile, motorists using petrol-powered cars and motorcycles will continue purchasing fuel at the existing rate during the specified period.
Diesel price increase adds to transportation costs
High-speed diesel is widely used in Pakistan’s transportation, agriculture and industrial sectors, making its price an important factor in determining operating expenses across the economy.
Heavy vehicles, including trucks, buses and commercial transport fleets, rely significantly on diesel to transport passengers and goods between cities and rural areas.
An increase in diesel prices can raise transportation expenses for businesses, particularly those involved in freight services, logistics and the distribution of essential commodities.
The agricultural sector may also face additional expenses because diesel is commonly used to operate tractors, tube wells and other agricultural machinery.
Any sustained increase in operating costs could place pressure on farmers and businesses, although the eventual impact on consumer prices will depend on market conditions and transportation arrangements.
For ordinary households, changes in diesel prices may indirectly influence the cost of goods and services through higher transportation and distribution expenses.
Petrol prices remain unchanged
Unlike diesel, petrol prices have remained unchanged under the latest government decision.
The petrol rate will continue at Rs377.91 per litre until November 2, providing temporary stability for motorists who use petrol-powered vehicles for daily commuting.
The unchanged rate means motorcycle owners, private car users and other petrol consumers will not face an additional per-litre increase during the three-day pricing period.
However, consumers will continue to monitor subsequent government announcements as international petroleum market movements may influence future domestic price adjustments.
OGRA introduces daily petroleum price updates
Alongside the latest revision, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has started publishing daily petroleum prices on its official website as part of efforts to improve transparency in the country’s fuel pricing system.
The initiative is intended to make updated petroleum price information more accessible to consumers and businesses while helping communicate international market movements more promptly.
Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik said the daily pricing calculations were based on a seven-day average of international petroleum market rates, following practices used in international markets.
Under this arrangement, the average of international oil prices over the preceding seven days is considered when calculating domestic petroleum rates.
The mechanism is intended to provide a more systematic approach to reflecting changes in global oil markets while allowing consumers to monitor movements in petroleum prices through the regulator’s website.
Transparency and international market fluctuations
Pakistan remains exposed to fluctuations in international petroleum prices because the country relies on imported oil and petroleum products to meet a significant portion of its energy requirements.
Changes in global crude oil prices, supply conditions and currency exchange rates can influence the cost of importing fuel and subsequently affect domestic petroleum prices.
The introduction of daily price updates is intended to improve public access to information and make the pricing process more transparent.
For consumers, access to updated information can help them understand changes in fuel rates and plan their transportation and household expenses accordingly.
Businesses that depend on petroleum products can also use the published information to assess operating costs and prepare for possible changes in transportation and production expenses.
New rates effective from October 31
Under the latest notification, high-speed diesel will cost Rs402.96 per litre, reflecting an increase of Rs2.29, while petrol will remain available at Rs377.91 per litre.
The revised rates will remain in force from October 31 through November 2, after which further pricing decisions may be announced under the applicable mechanism.
The latest adjustment highlights the continuing influence of international oil market conditions on Pakistan’s domestic fuel prices, with consumers and businesses closely monitoring developments.
