ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has increased petrol and high-speed diesel prices in Pakistan, placing additional pressure on motorists as the government’s special petrol relief scheme continues to provide assistance to eligible vehicle owners.

According to the announced rates, petrol has become more expensive by Rs1.54 per litre, taking its price to Rs379.25. The price of high-speed diesel has increased by Rs2.16 per litre to Rs395.82.

To help vulnerable consumers manage rising fuel costs, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif launched a special relief scheme offering a subsidy of Rs100 per litre on petrol for eligible motorcycles, Qingqi rickshaws, other rickshaws and small cars with engine capacities of up to 800cc. The programme was introduced amid volatility in international oil markets and regional tensions.

Who can benefit from the petrol relief scheme?

Under the programme, eligible motorcycle, Qingqi and rickshaw users can receive discounted petrol on up to 20 litres per month. Owners of qualifying cars with engine capacities of up to 800cc can receive the discount on up to 30 litres per month.

The scheme is designed to reduce transportation expenses for individuals who rely on motorcycles, three-wheelers and small cars for daily commuting and household needs.

How to register for the scheme

Eligible applicants can register through SMS by sending a message to 9771 in the following format:

Applicants must provide their Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) number, vehicle registration number, the first letter of the province where the vehicle is registered and the vehicle registration date.

After submitting the required information, applicants should receive a confirmation message on their mobile phones.

How to obtain discounted petrol

Once registered, eligible users must generate a fuel token before visiting a petrol station by sending TOK to 9771.

The token received by SMS must be presented at the fuel station to claim the discounted petrol. The transaction is then verified through the designated system.

The government has advised eligible consumers to follow the prescribed registration and token procedures to access the subsidy.

With petrol and diesel prices rising, the relief programme is intended to cushion the financial impact on eligible motorists, particularly those who depend on personal transport for work and daily activities.
