LAHORE — In a bold move during the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) meeting, member Sanaullah Mastikhel demanded the public disclosure of salary packages and benefits enjoyed by Members of Parliament, Grade-22 officers, military generals, and Supreme Court judges.

The meeting was chaired by PAC Chairman Junaid Akbar. During the session, Mastikhel urged full transparency, stating, “The details of all perks and salaries must be made public — whether they’re for parliamentarians or top-ranking officials.”

His remark prompted smiles from the chairman and several other committee members, but Mastikhel remained firm. “Chairman, issue the directive. Or are you afraid too?” he challenged. “This will expose who is actually corrupt — politicians or others. I’m ready to face any consequences for making this demand.”

In response, Chairman Junaid Akbar recalled his earlier effort to access Tosha Khana records. “I requested the complete record, but only details concerning members of parliament were provided. For others, it was claimed that gifts were taken directly home, so I didn’t make those public either,” he explained.

Mastikhel’s demand reignites the debate over transparency and accountability at the highest levels of Pakistan’s state institutions.
