LAHORE: Opposition member of the Punjab Assembly Waqas Mehmood Maan has submitted an adjournment motion seeking a discussion in the House regarding alleged expenses linked to Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s London visit.

The motion states that according to media reports, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif attended her daughter’s graduation ceremony during a private visit to London in September 2026. It further claims that the Punjab government aircraft was used for the visit and alleges that approximately Rs125 million were incurred on fuel, parking and other related expenses.

The lawmaker stated in the motion that the matter was of urgent public importance and required discussion in the provincial assembly to clarify the details of the visit and the reported expenditure.

According to the motion, at a time when citizens are facing challenges including inflation, unemployment and issues related to basic public services, the use of government resources requires transparency and accountability.

The motion also referred to concerns regarding the province’s education system following recent Class 9 examination results and stated that the House should discuss matters related to public priorities.

Waqas Mehmood Maan requested the Punjab Assembly speaker to declare the motion admissible and allow debate to determine whether the reported expenditure was made after fulfilling required legal and financial procedures.

The allegations mentioned in the motion are based on claims made in media reports and the opposition’s submission. The Punjab government’s response to the motion was not immediately available.
