LAHORE: A judicial magistrate on Friday handed over a woman accused of killing her three children in Lahore’s Shah Jamal area to police custody on a five-day physical remand, as investigators intensified efforts to collect evidence and establish the circumstances surrounding the harrowing case.

The suspect was produced before Judicial Magistrate Irshad Hussain by the investigating officer, who sought a 14-day physical remand to facilitate further inquiry into the alleged triple murder. The prosecution told the court police needed additional time to recover evidence connected to the case and complete several investigative procedures, including DNA analysis, polygraph examination and other medical tests.
After hearing the arguments, the magistrate approved a five-day physical remand instead of the two-week custody requested by investigators.

The case emerged on Thursday after three children were found dead inside their residence in a multi-storey building near Shah Jamal Colony, sending shockwaves through the locality. Initial police reports indicated the victims had been killed inside a room in the family’s home, with investigators stating their throats had been slit.
Police later alleged that the children were killed by their mother amid a deteriorating domestic situation and marital discord.
According to Deputy Inspector General (Operations) Faisal Kamran, preliminary interrogation suggested the accused acted following prolonged disputes with her husband. Officials claimed the woman confessed during questioning and cited strained relations in recent months as a factor behind the incident.
Police said the woman also made serious allegations against her husband during interrogation, claiming he had pressured her into developing relationships with other men, further deepening tensions within the household.
Investigators said the accused told police she had initially contemplated taking her own life after allegedly killing the children but later abandoned the plan. According to police, she claimed she feared her husband would cast the children out of the home and leave them vulnerable if she did not act.
Authorities have launched a detailed investigation into the case, with forensic examinations and witness statements expected to play a central role in determining the full sequence of events.
The incident has sparked widespread grief and outrage, while also drawing attention to the possible role of domestic conflict and mental distress in violent family tragedies. Officials said further progress in the case would depend on forensic findings and evidence gathered during the remand period.
Police maintained that the investigation was ongoing and all aspects of the case were being examined before filing a complete challan in court.
