LCCI calls for business-friendly policies to encourage economic growth

LAHORE: The business community should not be entangled in minor to ensure a peaceful and conducive business environment. Private is keen to contribute to Pakistan’s economic growth therefore, they should be provided with a supportive atmosphere to achieve this goal.

These views were expressed by the LCCI President Mian Abuzar Shad during a meeting at the Lahore Chamber with Additional Secretary of Punjab Home Department Uzma Saleem, Senior Superintendent of Police Usman Bajwa and Deputy Secretary Home Department Jamal Fazil. LCCI Executive Committee Member Aamna Randhawa also addressed the meeting.

The LCCI President called for a more cooperative relationship between government institutions and the business community and stressed the importance of discussing policies openly. “If institutions do not cooperate, where will traders go?” he asked and adding that while traders are eager to drive economic progress, they are often bogged down by issues such as dengue-related cases being registered by the Health Department. He said that no country can move forward under such conditions.

Usman Bajwa agreed with Mian Abuzar Shad stating that registering FIRs over dengue larvae is indeed a stringent measure. He assured the LCCI President that he would discuss this issue with the relevant authorities. He also acknowledged the longstanding relationship between law enforcement and the business community expressing a strong connection with the Chamber. He highlighted poor governance as a critical issue and called for a shift from enforcement to a facilitative role to promote growth.

He added that under the leadership of the Prime Minister, the country’s economic conditions are improving, which is a positive development. He said that security of Chinese has been increased after tragic incidents. He said that bulletproof vehicles and advanced equipment are being used for their protection.

He encouraged businesses to invest in bulletproof vehicle fleets for rent, assuring them of assistance in obtaining the NOCs.

Mian Abuzar Shad added that the government should allow the private sector to import duty-free bulletproof vehicles and assured that LCCI would play its part in attracting investors for this purpose. He said that adopting modern technologies like Artificial Intelligence is essential for Pakistan to stay competitive globally.

He said that Lahore Chamber is committed to work for economic growth and supporting initiatives that enhance security and governance, ensuring a thriving business environment in the country.
