LAHORE: On World Environment Day, the government launched the “Plastic and Pollution-Free Punjab” campaign. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif appeals for full cooperation from citizens.

On the instructions of the Chief Minister of Punjab, the “Zero Plastic, Zero Pollution” campaign was launched by government and private schools, offices and the Environment Agency (EPA) across the province. The aim of the campaign is to inform and explain to the public how dangerous and deadly plastic is for their lives. During the campaign, the youth and children in particular are to be made aware that plastic causes cancer and other deadly diseases in addition to air pollution. Students were encouraged to use cloth bags and paper products as alternatives to plastic. Environmental Protection Agency officers informed that plastic bags should not be used in general, including government and private offices. Tree plantation activities were also organized on the day of World Environment Day on the instructions of the Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister of Punjab says that the youth should become an environment-friendly force. Protecting the environment is protecting life. This is the duty of all of us. The Zero Plastic Campaign is not just a one-day event, but we have to make it a part of our daily lives.
