LAHORE – A spell of cloudy weather and light rain brought relief from intense heat in several parts of Pakistan, while Karachi residents woke up to pleasant conditions accompanied by drizzle early Tuesday morning.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain in Lahore and various districts of Punjab. According to the Met Office, Lahore’s minimum temperature is expected to remain around 28°C, while the maximum may reach 37°C. Winds are blowing at 10 kilometres per hour, with humidity recorded at 52 percent. Rainfall is likely during the afternoon hours in the provincial capital.
In Karachi, intermittent drizzle and light showers eased the city’s heat and humidity, creating comfortable weather conditions for residents. Areas including Shahrah-e-Faisal, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Tariq Road, Bahadurabad, Saddar and Kharadar received light rain accompanied by cool breezes.
Similar weather conditions were reported in Shahrah-e-Pakistan, Liaquatabad, Azizabad and several parts of FB Area, where the showers offered much-needed respite from the lingering humid spell.
The improved weather encouraged many residents to head outdoors, resulting in increased pedestrian movement and traffic across different parts of the city.
Meanwhile, thunderstorms lashed Abbottabad, while encroachments on waterways led to water accumulation on sections of the Karakoram Highway.
Rain and thunderstorms were also reported in Sargodha and Darya Khan, while showers in Wazirabad, Sangla Hill, Mianwali, Pasrur and Sohdra brought relief from soaring temperatures.
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), rainfall is expected in most districts of Punjab from Tuesday, with the wet spell likely to continue until June 20.
PDMA Director General said commissioners and deputy commissioners across the province had been alerted to remain prepared for any weather-related emergencies.
The authority has forecast rain in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad and Wazirabad.
Showers are also expected in Faisalabad, Okara, Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha, Bhakkar, Layyah, Mianwali, Bahawalpur Division, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Rahim Yar Khan and Kot Addu.
