Long hours, low wages, and little dignity — a security guard pauses on duty to eat a simple, makeshift meal of roti with curry and a bowl of watery yogurt, placed on a worn bench in the open. With no proper dining space, no rest breaks, and minimal facilities, this scene reflects the daily reality of many guards in Pakistan who work exhausting shifts yet struggle to afford even a basic, nutritious meal.

Digital reform for security sector welcome, but guards’ welfare must not be ignored

LAHORE: Following the vision of Chief Minister Punjab, DIG Investigation Lahore, Syed Zeeshan Raza, conducted an open court (Khuli Kachehri) in the Sabzazar police precinct, aiming to strengthen ties between the public and police while addressing citizens’ grievances directly.

The event was attended by SP Investigation Iqbal Town Sadra Khan, DSPs, Investigation Incharges, investigating officers, and a large number of citizens, including many overseas Pakistanis. People raised their concerns regarding ongoing investigations and police procedures.

DIG Zeeshan Raza listened to the complaints attentively and issued on-the-spot instructions to resolve issues. He also reprimanded several Investigation Incharges and officers over poor investigation practices and issued show-cause notices on the spot.

“Compromise on merit will not be tolerated under any circumstances,” he firmly stated.

He directed investigation officers to dispose of cases strictly on merit and ensure timely justice for complainants.

The participants appreciated the prompt response of the police and praised the efforts of DIG Zeeshan Raza for creating a platform to hear public issues.

“Protecting the lives and property of citizens is the top priority of the Investigation Police,” DIG Raza emphasized.

He added that the objective of holding open courts is to bridge the gap between police and the public and that timely and fair justice is essential for maintaining law and order.

DIG Raza also instructed officers to treat citizens with respect, improve their performance, and assured that his office doors remain open for all citizens at all times.
