LAHORE, January 14 — Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday paid rich tribute to Arfa Karim, Pakistan’s youngest Microsoft Certified Professional, on her 14th death anniversary, saying that the Nawaz Sharif IT City would empower every daughter of Punjab to follow in her footsteps.
In a special message, the chief minister said Arfa Karim, who achieved Microsoft certification at the age of nine, was a shining example for the country’s youth, particularly girls aspiring to excel in information technology. She said Arfa brought pride to Pakistan at a very young age and would always be remembered as one of the nation’s most talented daughters.
“Arfa Karim was a symbol of what Pakistani children can achieve when provided with opportunities,” Maryam Nawaz said, adding that her achievements continue to inspire future generations.
The chief minister said the Nawaz Sharif IT City project has been launched to provide modern IT opportunities to the sons and daughters of Punjab, enabling them to compete at the global level. She added that leading international institutions are establishing campuses in the IT City, which will serve as a hub for innovation, skills development, and advanced technology education.
Recalling Arfa Karim’s journey, Maryam Nawaz said dedication and talent took her to remarkable heights. “Through the Nawaz Sharif IT City, we aim to elevate the dreams of our youth to similar heights,” she added, expressing the resolve that the project would nurture skilled professionals and promote digital empowerment across Punjab.
Meanwhile, the chief minister also took notice of the increasing incidents of dog bites in Rawalpindi following a report aired on a private television channel. She sought a detailed report from the Deputy Commissioner Rawalpindi and directed strict action against those found negligent.
Maryam Nawaz further instructed authorities to ensure the availability of anti-rabies vaccines in all government hospitals of Rawalpindi to provide timely treatment to affected citizens. “Ensuring the safety and protection of citizens is our foremost responsibility,” she said, directing health and district administrations to take immediate and effective measures.
