CHAKWAL (Web Desk)- Two robbery suspects involved in a series of armed robberies and a fatal shooting incident earlier this week were killed in an encounter with the Crime Control Department (CCD) in Chakwal, while a CCD officer has been arrested on murder charges following the death of a nine-year-old girl during the operation.
According to sources, Adeel Ahmed, 39, his wife Dr. Sidra Khan, their daughter Hania Ahmed, 9, and son Aafan Ahmed, 10, were travelling when CCD personnel allegedly opened fire on their vehicle after mistaking it for that of fleeing robbers. Hania was killed at the scene, while Adeel and Aafan sustained critical injuries. Dr. Sidra escaped unharmed.
The robbers, who had been involved in a robbery attempt moments earlier, managed to flee after abandoning their motorcycle.
Initially, the CCD official involved in the shooting was not named in the First Information Report (FIR). However, investigators later amended the case by adding Section 302 (murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code, leading to the officer’s arrest.
Authorities said the two robbery suspects were killed during a CCD operation on Thursday night. They were identified as Mohammad Abbas, a resident of Shahdara, and Mohammad Feyaz, from Ferozwala.
A senior CCD official claimed the suspects had carried out multiple robberies across Punjab and were responsible for a string of crimes committed within a three-hour period on Wednesday night. The official said the pair had a long criminal history and had previously been arrested and charged in several cases.
According to investigators, the suspects allegedly shot and injured a CCD officer in Gujranwala on June 3, snatched a motorcycle in Sheikhupura on June 6, and robbed a vendor in Khewra before arriving in Chakwal. They reportedly stayed at a mosque near Sutwal village along the Chakwal-Choa Saidan Shah Road.
The official further revealed that Abbas often disguised himself as a woman, wearing traditional female attire to pose as the wife of his accomplice. The duo allegedly used this tactic to identify potential targets during the day before carrying out robberies at night.
Police said further investigations into the incident are underway.
