The commemorative event honoured the ultimate sacrifice made by policemen in line of duty.
On May 27, 2009, six terrorists armed with hand grenades and firearms attacked the Rescue 15 building. The security officials displayed exceptional bravery, engaging the terrorists in a firefight and forcing them to retreat. In a cowardly final act, one of the terrorists detonated an explosive-laden vehicle, claiming the lives of the brave policemen.
In a message, Capital City Police Officer Bilal Siddique Kamyana stated that Lahore Police’s history was filled with heroic sacrifices in line of duty. 342 officers and jawans of Lahore Police have laid down their lives while fulfilling their responsibilities, he added.
“The sacrifices of our martyrs were a beacon of guidance for us,” said the CCPO. “Their mission to protect the nation and uphold peace will continue, God willing.” He emphasized that the blood of martyrs and Ghazis was deeply woven into the foundation, survival and sovereignty of Pakistan.
The CCPO also reaffirmed the commitment of Lahore Police to continue making every sacrifice necessary in line of duty. He acknowledged the police’s role in crime control, counter-terrorism and the maintenance of peace and order at the grassroots.
The Lahore Police was working proactively for the welfare of the heirs of martyrs, with initiatives including the provision of houses, support for daughters’ marriages, quality education and healthcare. “Our offices were always open to the families of our martyrs,” said Kamyana, assuring that the police department will continue to stand by them at every step of life.
