JALANDHAR (Web Desk) – A tragic road accident in Jalandhar, in India’s Punjab state, has claimed the lives of two young men, including the nephew of popular Indian singer Yo Yo Honey Singh, after their car collided with a stationary tractor-trolley on a flyover near Police Lines.
The accident occurred at approximately 3am when the victims were reportedly returning from a birthday celebration. Their vehicle was travelling from BMC Chowk towards BSF Chowk when it rammed into a tractor-trolley parked on the road.
The deceased were identified as Vidat Olakh and Aarav Talwar. Indian media reports identified Olakh as the nephew of Bollywood and Punjabi music star Yo Yo Honey Singh and the son of Dinesh, owner of the popular Punjabi music label Speed Records.
Talwar was reportedly the son of a prominent sweet shop owner in the area.
The incident has caused grief among the families and people associated with the Punjabi entertainment and business communities.
How the accident occurred
According to police, authorities received information about the collision at around 3am and reached the scene to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Initial information suggests that municipal sanitation workers were carrying out cleaning operations on the flyover at the time of the accident.
A tractor-trolley had reportedly been parked on the road for collecting garbage as part of the municipal cleaning activity.
The car, travelling towards BSF Chowk, struck the stationary vehicle, resulting in a devastating collision.
The impact was severe, leaving the two young men dead at the scene. Police subsequently began examining the circumstances of the accident and gathering information about the vehicle’s movements before the collision.
Five people reportedly travelled in the car
According to the police account, five people had been travelling in the car during the journey.
However, the other three occupants had reportedly returned to their homes earlier, while Olakh and Talwar remained in the vehicle when the fatal collision occurred.
The available information has not established further details about why the other occupants left the journey before the accident.
Police examined the incident and informed the families about the deaths. Following the accident, the families reportedly declined legal proceedings, after which the bodies were handed over to them.
The decision was made at the request of the bereaved families, according to the initial police account.
Honey Singh expresses grief over nephew’s death
The tragedy also deeply affected the Indian music industry after news emerged that one of the deceased was related to singer Yo Yo Honey Singh.
The singer reportedly shared an Instagram story expressing sorrow over the death of his nephew, describing the incident as a devastating personal tragedy.
Honey Singh, whose real name is Hirdesh Singh, is one of India’s prominent performers in the Punjabi and Bollywood music industries. He is known for his contribution to Punjabi pop, hip-hop and commercial film music.
The reported death of his nephew has brought additional attention to the accident, particularly among fans and people associated with the Punjabi entertainment industry.
Olakh’s father, Dinesh, is also connected to the Punjabi music business as the owner of Speed Records, a recognised music label associated with Punjabi artists and productions.
The loss has therefore affected a family with connections to both the entertainment and business communities.
Accident raises concerns over road safety
The incident has also drawn attention to road safety arrangements during nighttime municipal cleaning operations.
Stationary vehicles used for sanitation and garbage collection can create hazards when parked on busy roads, particularly during hours when visibility is reduced and traffic may be travelling at higher speeds.
Proper warning signs, reflective markings, adequate lighting and safety barriers are important measures for alerting approaching motorists to vehicles involved in roadside maintenance activities.
Similarly, drivers must remain attentive and adjust their speed according to road conditions, particularly when travelling during late-night and early-morning hours.
The circumstances of the Jalandhar collision highlight the importance of ensuring that municipal operations do not create unnecessary risks for road users.
Families mourn the loss
The deaths of Olakh and Talwar have left their families and friends mourning the loss of two young lives.
The accident has also prompted discussions among members of the Punjabi community about nighttime driving, municipal vehicle safety and the importance of appropriate precautions on busy roads.
Police completed the initial formalities and handed over the bodies to the families after they reportedly declined further legal proceedings.
The incident remains a tragic reminder of how a road collision can have devastating consequences for families and communities.
