LAHORE (Web Desk): Three Lahore police officials, including the Station House Officer (SHO) of Defence B police station, have been removed from their posts following allegations of providing preferential treatment to TikToker Samea Mubarak and releasing her after she was detained.

According to police sources, the action was taken after concerns emerged over the handling of the case involving Samea Mubarak, the sister of well-known TikToker Nadeem Nani Wala. The incident has raised questions about the conduct of the officials involved and the procedures followed during the detention and subsequent release.

The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations confirmed that the SHO of Defence B police station, a police station clerk and a female constable had been removed from their current assignments pending an inquiry into the matter.

The DIG said Samea Mubarak had been stopped by police while travelling in a vehicle without a number plate. The circumstances surrounding the incident and the subsequent handling of the case are now under examination.

Inquiry launched into alleged preferential treatment

According to the available information, allegations against the officials include exceeding their authority, providing special treatment and allegedly accepting money in connection with the release of suspects.

However, these allegations have not yet been established, and the removal of the officials from their posts should not be treated as a finding of guilt.

The DIG Operations said the action was intended to ensure that the investigation could proceed transparently and without any potential interference. The inquiry has been assigned to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations, who will examine the circumstances surrounding the incident and the conduct of the personnel concerned.

The investigation is expected to assess whether the officials followed established police procedures, whether the detention and release were handled lawfully and whether any misconduct occurred during the process.

Officials could face further departmental proceedings if the allegations are substantiated by the inquiry.

Accountability within police department

The case has brought renewed attention to the importance of accountability and consistency in law enforcement, particularly in incidents involving individuals with a significant public profile.

Police officials are expected to apply the law uniformly, regardless of a person’s social media following, public recognition or family connections. Allegations of preferential treatment can undermine public confidence in law enforcement institutions and raise concerns about the transparency of police procedures.

The removal of the three officials pending investigation represents an administrative step while the facts are examined. The outcome will depend on the evidence collected and the findings submitted by the inquiry officer.

The department will also need to establish whether any established rules or operational procedures were breached and whether additional action is warranted.

Further action depends on inquiry findings

The SSP Operations-led inquiry is expected to determine the sequence of events, the reasons for the vehicle stop, the legal basis for any detention and the circumstances under which Samea Mubarak was released.

The investigation may also examine relevant police records and statements from the personnel involved to establish whether the handling of the incident complied with departmental requirements.

If misconduct is confirmed, the officials could face disciplinary action in accordance with applicable rules. If the allegations are not substantiated, the findings would need to reflect the available evidence.

No final determination of responsibility has been announced, and the allegations concerning preferential treatment and possible payments remain subject to investigation.

The Lahore police department’s next steps will depend on the inquiry report and any evidence establishing violations of law or departmental regulations.

The case is likely to remain under scrutiny as the investigation progresses, with attention focused on whether the inquiry establishes accountability and clarifies the circumstances surrounding the incident.
