LAHORE (Web Desk) – Two suspects allegedly involved in killing three police officials in Lahore were killed in an exchange of fire with law enforcement personnel in Muridke on Friday, police said.

According to police officials, the suspects were identified as Fayyaz Butt and Rehan Butt, who were allegedly involved in separate attacks on police personnel in Lahore a day earlier.

Police said a joint team comprising Lahore Police, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), Sheikhupura Police and Elite Force personnel pursued the suspects from Lahore to Muridke.

Officials said the suspects allegedly forced a Lahore Waste Management Company vehicle driver at gunpoint to drive them towards Muridke during their escape.

The police investigation indicates that two policemen were allegedly shot dead in the Badami Bagh area, while another police official was killed near Yateem Khana Chowk on Multan Road. Three other personnel were reportedly injured in the attacks.

Police identified the deceased officials as Sub-Inspector Adeel Ashiq and Constable Asad among those killed in the attacks.

During the subsequent search operation, law enforcement personnel reportedly traced the suspects to areas around Muridke. Police said thermal drones were used to track their movements after they were believed to have moved towards a forest near the River Ravi.

According to police, the suspects later entered a house in a populated area and allegedly held a family hostage. When law enforcement personnel reached the location, an exchange of fire took place in which Fayyaz and Rehan were killed.

Police said a third suspect, identified as Tariq, separated from the two men during the pursuit and allegedly fled towards Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Authorities in Punjab and AJK are reportedly working to locate him.

Police sources said the attacks were being investigated as a possible revenge motive. They alleged that Rehan’s brother, Faizan Butt, had previously been killed during an encounter involving a CTD team.

Officials further claimed that Sub-Inspector Adeel had reported receiving threats from Rehan in 2024, following which a case was registered at Shafiqabad police station.

The allegations and circumstances surrounding the police killings are subject to further investigation, while the claims attributed to police have not been independently verified.
