RAWALPINDI: Fifteen people, including military personnel, police officers and a government official, were martyred after militants attacked a joint police check post in Tank district, the military’s media wing said on Friday.
In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said militants belonging to what it described as the “Fitna-al-Khwarij” launched the attack during the night of July 23-24.
According to the ISPR, the attackers attempted to breach the security of the joint check post but were repelled by security forces, who engaged the militants and killed 12 attackers during the operation.
The military said that as the militants retreated, they rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the perimeter wall of the check post, causing a powerful blast that severely damaged the facility.
The explosion resulted in the martyrdom of 15 people, including 12 military personnel, two police officers and one Forest Department official, the statement added.
The ISPR said a sanitisation operation was continuing in the area to clear any remaining militants.
It added that Pakistan’s counter-terrorism campaign under the “Azm-e-Istehkam” initiative would continue, reaffirming the country’s commitment to eliminating militancy and protecting national security.
