CUPERTINO | June 29, 2026 – Apple’s upcoming standard iPhone 18 may not support the complete range of next-generation Apple Intelligence features, according to fresh industry reports suggesting the device will launch with a lower memory configuration than its premium counterparts. If accurate, the decision would further distinguish Apple’s standard and Pro smartphone models in the rapidly expanding field of artificial intelligence.
Supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reports that Apple plans to equip both the standard iPhone 18 and the expected iPhone 18e with 9GB of RAM. While this represents an improvement over the current entry-level models, it could still fall short of the memory required for the most demanding on-device AI functions expected in future versions of Apple Intelligence.
Industry observers believe Apple’s AI platform is becoming a major selling point for future iPhone generations as the company increasingly shifts toward features that process data directly on the device. Running AI models locally offers greater privacy, lower latency, and reduced dependence on cloud servers, but it also requires significantly more processing power and system memory.
Reports indicate that Apple may reserve the complete Apple Intelligence experience for devices equipped with at least 12GB of RAM. Apple’s premium lineup is reportedly expected to receive substantially more memory. The iPhone 18 Pro models and the company’s anticipated foldable smartphone—widely rumored to launch under the iPhone Ultra branding—are expected to feature 12GB of RAM alongside a more powerful A20 Pro chipset.
