Russian cultural evening in Lahore marks Russia’s National Day

Russian and Pakistani artists performed at a cultural evening in Lahore marking Russia's National Day, highlighting cultural exchange and strengthening bilateral ties.

LAHORE: A vibrant Russian Cultural Evening was held at the Alhamra Cultural Complex near Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, to celebrate Russia’s National Day. The event was jointly organized by the Russian Centre for Science, Education and Culture Lahore and the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Islamabad.

The ceremony featured performances by internationally acclaimed Russian artists, who presented traditional Russian folk music and dance, highlighting the rich cultural heritage of their country. Pakistani performers also enthralled the audience with regional folk dances and classical Kathak performances, earning widespread appreciation from attendees.

The chief guest at the event was Mr. Gleb Shubin, Education and Cultural Attaché of the Russian Embassy in Pakistan. Among the distinguished speakers were Dr. Shahid Hasan, Russian Ambassador for Science and Education and Chairman of the Russian Centre, and Professor Dr. Ashraf Nizami, CEO of the Honorary Consulate of the Russian Federation in Lahore and Vice Chairman of the Russian Centre.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Shubin said that cultural exchanges play a vital role in strengthening people-to-people contacts between Pakistan and Russia. He noted that enhanced cultural understanding also opens new avenues for economic and business cooperation between the two countries. He added that Pakistanis have always shown a strong interest in learning about and engaging with different cultures.

Dr. Shahid Hasan emphasized that growing diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Russia are contributing positively to the economic development of both nations. He said cultural events provide valuable opportunities for people from both countries to deepen mutual understanding and explore new areas of cooperation. He also highlighted the importance of Pakistan-Russia friendship on the international stage.

Professor Dr. Ashraf Nizami underlined the strong cultural traditions shared by both nations, stating that the pride Pakistanis and Russians take in their heritage reflects the strength and identity of their respective countries.

The event concluded with a spectacular performance by the visiting Russian cultural troupe, while Pakistani artists showcased colorful regional dances. Renowned Kathak dancer Asfandyar Khattak received special appreciation for his outstanding performance.

A large number of diplomats, academics, cultural enthusiasts and members of civil society attended the event, making it a memorable celebration of friendship, cultural diversity and mutual respect between Pakistan and Russia.
