PARIS (Sports Desk) – Russian teenager Mirra Andreeva has described winning her first Grand Slam title as an unforgettable experience, saying the reality of becoming a major champion surpassed everything she had imagined.
The 19-year-old captured the French Open crown with a commanding straight-sets victory over Poland’s Maja Chwalinska, becoming the youngest Roland Garros women’s singles champion in more than 30 years.
Reflecting on the achievement, Andreeva revealed that she had often envisioned lifting a Grand Slam trophy, but said the emotions of actually accomplishing the feat were far greater than any dream or expectation.
The young star admitted she had spent considerable time visualising such a moment throughout her career and said seeing the trophy in her hands made the accomplishment feel truly special.
Andreeva added that she was particularly pleased that her breakthrough Grand Slam triumph came in Paris. Having grown up playing extensively on clay courts, she said Roland Garros always felt like a tournament where she could perform at her best.
The teenager also noted her connection with France and the clay surface, describing the French Open as an ideal venue for her first major title.
Despite celebrating the biggest success of her career, Andreeva is already looking ahead to the grass-court season and the upcoming Wimbledon Championships. She admitted that the feeling of winning a Grand Slam has motivated her to chase more success in the future.
According to the young champion, experiencing such a milestone has increased her determination to continue improving and competing for additional major titles.
Andreeva also praised her coach, Conchita Martinez, for playing a crucial role in her development. The pair began working together in 2024 and have steadily built a successful partnership.
The French Open winner said sharing her first Grand Slam triumph with Martinez made the achievement even more meaningful, highlighting the hard work and challenges they had overcome together both on and off the court.
She added that hearing words of praise from her coach after the victory was one of the most memorable moments of her career.
