LAHORE – Senior Vice President of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), Tanveer S Sheikh, has congratulated Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their role in helping ease tensions involving United States, Israel and Iran.
In a statement issued on Thursday, he commended the leadership for what he described as effective diplomatic engagement that contributed to a temporary halt in hostilities for two weeks, creating space for efforts towards a permanent ceasefire.
Tanveer Sheikh appreciated the decision of the concerned parties to de-escalate, calling it a responsible and timely step in a tense regional climate. He emphasised that dialogue remains the most effective and sustainable path for resolving all forms of disputes.
He urged global stakeholders to prioritise negotiations over confrontation, stating that continued diplomatic engagement would help prevent further escalation and foster long-term stability.
The LCCI president also called on the prime minister to leverage this diplomatic success to advance Pakistan’s broader national interests. He highlighted the need to strengthen economic and trade relations with Iran, particularly under current regional circumstances.
He stressed the importance of expediting the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project, terming it crucial for meeting the country’s energy demands. He added that increased bilateral trade with Iran could boost economic growth, enhance regional connectivity, and support local industries.
In addition, Tanveer Sheikh called for the nomination of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir for the Nobel Peace Prize, in recognition of their diplomatic efforts in reducing tensions and promoting peace in the region.
He concluded by stating that the business community fully supports initiatives aimed at ensuring peace and economic cooperation, noting that regional stability is essential for sustainable development and prosperity.
