KARACHI (News Desk) – A court in Karachi has directed a private hospital to pay Rs20 million in damages after a woman died allegedly due to medical negligence.

The court noted that performing a C-section without access to an intensive care unit was a grave lapse. It also ruled that the failure to manage severe bleeding promptly reflected professional negligence, adding that essential medical protocols were not properly followed.
According to the petitioner, Afzal Khan, the woman had been admitted for delivery but did not receive timely blood or adequate treatment at the facility.
She was later transferred to another hospital in a critical condition, where she passed away. The court further observed that the initial hospital lacked proper emergency and ventilator support.
It was also alleged that the gynaecologist left the hospital soon after the operation and returned only hours later, by which time the patient’s condition had worsened significantly.
Taking these circumstances into account, the court ordered the hospital to compensate the victim’s family.
