The Digital Platform Workers Union held a significant meeting to discuss the rights, protection, and working conditions of gig workers across the country. The session was chaired by Union President Zafar Malik and attended by representatives from various labour organisations, including Sarwar, Waris, and Hanif Ramey, General Secretary of the Mutahida Labour Federation.

During the meeting, participants highlighted the growing challenges faced by platform-based workers and stressed the need for immediate policy intervention.
The union presented a set of key demands to be forwarded to the Government of Pakistan and the Punjab Government. These include the provision of mobile data and digital connectivity to gig workers to ensure uninterrupted access to platforms.

The union also called on companies to support workers by providing necessary devices and covering operational costs associated with their work.
A major demand focused on the registration of gig workers under social security schemes to guarantee basic rights and financial protection.
Additionally, the union urged companies to ensure vehicle protection for workers, including insurance coverage for bikes and cars used during work.
The Digital Platform Workers Union emphasized that timely action by authorities is essential to safeguard the rights and livelihoods of thousands of gig workers across Pakistan.
