LAHORE, November 11: The Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI) hosted high-level engagements with both Chinese and British officials to strengthen international business ties, explore emerging opportunities, and equip Pakistani entrepreneurs for global markets. These interactions underscore the Chamber’s vision of empowering the business community through strategic initiatives, capacity-building, and foreign partnerships.
Chinese Consul General Zhao Shiren attended the inauguration of the Chinese Language Course at LCCI, highlighting the growing importance of language proficiency for the country’s business sector. Addressing participants, Zhao emphasized that learning Chinese goes beyond mere communication, serving as a bridge to understanding Chinese culture, accessing economic opportunities, and building stronger bilateral engagement under the Belt and Road Initiative. He encouraged local entrepreneurs to stay abreast of China’s ongoing economic reforms and leverage the evolving market environment for mutual benefit.
LCCI President Faheem-ur-Rehman Saigol delivered the welcome address, highlighting the Chamber’s commitment to providing value-added initiatives beyond its regular functions. He noted that over 110 members had enrolled in the course, reflecting strong interest in expanding linguistic and business capabilities. Saigol emphasized that foreign language training is essential for enhancing communication with international partners, facilitating trade, and promoting Pakistan’s integration into global supply chains. Senior Vice President Tanveer Ahmed Sheikh, Vice President Khurram Lodhi, and executive committee members were also present during the ceremony, which concluded with the distribution of certificates to participants.
In a separate engagement, the Chamber hosted Ben Warrington, head of the British High Commission in Lahore, for high-level discussions on bilateral trade, investment, and cooperation. The delegation focused on strengthening Pakistan-UK relations through support for SMEs, technology, IT-enabled sectors, and industrial diversification. Saigol briefed the delegation on LCCI’s strategic initiatives aimed at empowering youth, enhancing export competitiveness, and promoting sustainability across key industries, including textiles, manufacturing, automotive, food, and beverages.
Both sides emphasized the importance of exploring new markets, creating high-value products, and equipping Pakistani businesses to compete globally. Warrington recognized Lahore’s significance as a commercial hub and affirmed the UK’s readiness to collaborate with Pakistan’s private sector. He highlighted the UK government’s ongoing programs in Punjab and underscored the role of SMEs, digital innovation, and regulatory reforms in unlocking economic opportunities. The discussions also focused on promoting joint ventures, facilitating knowledge-sharing, and supporting climate-resilient economic planning.
President Saigol further elaborated on LCCI’s efforts to encourage sustainable practices within industries, reduce carbon footprints, and expand awareness of climate adaptation measures. He highlighted Pakistan’s growing technology sector, including freelancing, gaming, and software development, as a key area for joint cooperation with British enterprises. Both delegations agreed to continue promoting B2B interactions, attract foreign investment, and facilitate partnerships that benefit both nations’ economies.
These engagements demonstrate LCCI’s proactive approach in fostering international collaborations, empowering entrepreneurs, and preparing Pakistani businesses to capitalize on global opportunities. By providing members with access to language skills, trade facilitation, and cross-border partnerships, the Chamber aims to position Pakistan’s private sector for sustainable growth, enhanced export performance, and stronger integration into the international business ecosystem.
LCCI’s leadership reiterated its commitment to strengthening Pakistan-China and Pakistan-UK economic ties, equipping business members with the tools, knowledge, and networks needed to thrive in an increasingly competitive global environment. Both events signal the Chamber’s ongoing focus on enabling Pakistan’s private sector to achieve broader economic resilience, technological advancement, and enhanced market access.
