LAHORE: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) announced it will challenge the new Local Government Act 2025 in court, calling it a revival of General Zia’s 1985 non-party system. Party leaders Mian Misbah-ur-Rehman, Asif Hashmi, Faisal Mir, and Nargis Khan, while addressing a press conference after a consultative meeting at the People’s Secretariat, Model Town, criticized the bill as “half partridge and half quail.”

Mian Misbah-ur-Rehman said the PPP will contest all seats in Lahore and form a committee to select candidates, demanding Chairman Bilawal Bhutto, President Asif Zardari, and the Punjab Governor to review the law. Asif Hashmi accused the PML-N of fearing party-based elections despite claiming massive development in Punjab. Faisal Mir vowed that PPP would not give the PML-N a walkover this time and would begin its campaign from Johar Town. Nargis Khan emphasized that PPP women will actively contest the polls, exposing the PML-N’s “ill intentions.”
